Elle Wood’s self confidence is sooo enviable (can you tell that I’m watching Legally Blonde right now?). And even though the people at Harvard made clear that she wasn’t “fit” for Boston, she showed them wrong (can you also tell that I loooooove this movie?)

Although having self confidence is tricky, there are some hacks you can use to boost your it.


9 easy ways to boost self confidence

1. Fake it till you make it
No really- when I took my communications class one of the main things I learned was that people feed off what you show them. In short, if you act confident people will say/treat you with confidence.

2. Listen to a great playlist
I was going to make one, but this is one of my favorites. Also weird uncommon songs might make you feel better-like this one for me.

3. Watch a good movie
A good self confidence boosting movie like Legally Blonde, The Devil Wears Prada, Rocky, and James Bond to name a few.

4. 90% of low self esteem comes from negative thoughts

This statistic isn't authentic-so don't cite this or anything, but it's probably true. Truth.

5. Celebrate every win
Every achievement, no matter how small, is a win.

6. Be bold
You know that person that caught your eye? Go to talk to them. It’s a conversation not a marriage proposal.

7. Say ‘No”
Putting yourself first is not a crime. This kinda goes back to fake it till you make it. If people feel that you’re a doormat (in other words they know they can walk all over you and you won’t mind), they will continue to do that. Stand up for yourself, say no thanks, I have other things to do.

8. Learn to love the spotlight
Don’t shy away from a little attention now and then. Get up on that stage and sing that karaoke song badly,  Again it’s a karaoke bar not American Idol.

9. Love yourself
Shocker. I can’t stress this enough though. Loving yourself is the foundation of so many things. Once you understand, love and care for yourself-the world is your oyster.

  • These are such great tips! For me, I use meditation with the mantra “I am confident” when I’m feeling not quite up to par. It ends up going along the lines of fake it till you make it because as the saying goes, we believe what we tell ourselves. If we’re constantly having that inner negative self talk, it’s no wonder that we believe it, but if we’re constantly lifting ourselves up and speaking positively to ourselves, we will begin to believe it and own our beautiful selves for who we are.

    I love these tips! I don’t know if your percentage of bad thoughts is scientifically validated but I would totally second it. I’ve worked hard to get my negative thoughts under control. Some days are better than others. I do think that I need to celebrate my wins more. It’s hard when you’re trying to build a business because it’s so easy to have an accomplishment and then just jump to the next goal.
