8 (budget friendly) makeup products every college girl needs

When you are in college, do you really have the budget to buy a $40 foundation, $30 mascara and $35 lipstick? Sure you don’t. It’s amazing you even scrape enough money to pay for food, especially at the end of the month, right? Still, no matter how much money you (don’t) have, you want to look presentable and as beautiful as possible while staying on a healthy budget. Worry not, we’ve come up with a list of makeup products you’ll love and be able to afford without worrying if you’ll make rent after you’ve purchased them.
Narrowed down, the list:

Foundation
Rare are the days when #iwokeuplikethis actually works to our advantage (especially during an exam season) and not many of us won the genetic lottery. Unfortunately, most of us have to rely on a quality foundation to hide all the hormonal and stress blemishes, redness, dark under-eye circles, etc. So, after browsing through plenty of products trying to find that one foundation that actually works without breaking the bank, I’ve found Rimmel Stay Matte, which blew my mind. This foundation is light and creamy, it’ll stay fixed on the face for hours without getting that cakey structure we hate and it’ll cost you just about $5! I believe it works on any skin type and any colour.

Under-eye concealer
Maybe this time around you should leave that I-just-rolled-out-of-bed look for some other time (even though you may indeed have rolled out of bed 5 minutes before your 8 am class) and put on some concealer to give your face a healthy glow. Choose a concealer that’s a few shades lighter than your actual skin tone. Why? Your eyes will look brighter and you won’t look tired. Our choice falls on NYX Cosmetics HD Photogenic Concealer Wand, $5.

Powder
One of the crucial steps in our makeup routine ‒ applying powder properly (and choosing the right one) is what sets all of our hard work in place. We love Elf Flawless Face as it sets the makeup perfectly and provides great coverage! Believe it or not – it’s only $2.00!

Mascara

Why wouldn’t you have a set of volumized lashes for $7-$8! Every Covergirl mascara we’ve tried has turned out to be absolutely fantastic. Try Clump Crusher, Lash Full Bloom and LashBlast – and you won’t regret it.

Lip gloss
Pouty, coloured and nurtured lips for only $6.00? WHERE? Well, look no more ‒ ColourPop (we’ve tried the one in Beeper shade) is marvelous and the price is practically a steal! These lipsticks stay on long (sometimes the entire day), so don’t worry about looking anything but dashing at that after-class party!

Eyeshadow
There are times in life when you simply need to skip on a meal or two and treat yourself to a little quality. In trying eyeshadows, we’ve come across Skin Matrix Osmosis Water Colour mineral eyeshadow and were completely blown away. The formula is light and hydrating, with a radiant glimmer that doesn’t crease. We’ve only later found out that this eyeshadow contains Green Tea, Vitamins A, C, E and Goji Berry blend which heals and nurtures the eye area. How awesome is that? We somehow feel this one’s perfect for night dates or those crazy frat parties.

Good bronzer
Getting a quality bronzer, especially during spring/summer days, is key to solid contouring and a “fake” tanned look. To give your cheekbones and chin a fine contour, buy a bronzer that is a shade darker than your skin tone, and get a beautiful pop. Our choice falls on Wet n’ Wild ColorIcon Bronzer, that you’ll get for $3.99. Is that a steal or what? The bronzer feels smooth on the skin, it’s very light and it comes in a variety of shades.

The right perfume

source
Is there anything as fabulous as smelling good even after an 8-hour lecture? No, absolutely not. There are no makeup products in the world will mask a bad smell, so make sure you keep your hygiene impeccable and your perfume on point. Currently, our favourite is Paco Rabanne Olympea, but that’s very individual. Find your fragrance and own it!

Well, girls – we hope we were of help! what makeup products could we rock while being on a college budget?, please share the wisdom, we’ll appreciate it!

  • I’m pretty lazy with my makeup, but I use a ton of serums and prep-products. Makeup-wise, I stick to the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer, some translucent powder, mascara and eyebrow gel. That should be enough to get you to class on time!

    • Ohh that sounds like some great stuff!

I definitely use all of these products- I am a makeup junkie for sure!

I am very interested in that foundation. Do you know if it is non-comedogenic? I get breakouts pretty easily so I have to be careful. I definitely like to mix it up with my make up, so these seem like good products to add to my collection (in lots of colors!).

  • LEWAL

Anything by ELF! their lipsticks (typically $3) are pretty comparable to higher end brands. I love their products.

  • Alyssa Kolsky Hertzig

I work in beauty and even I hadn’t heard about some of these products! Great picks. Love that eyeshadow palette!

  • While I’m not in college, these are all great suggestions! I remember loving having great makeup that was affordable while in college. It’s key on those days you’re just not feeling it.

    • Which is almost everyday for me lol.

  • I’ll have to check out these products! I haven’t tried any!

  • I’m a big fan of drugstore products! I’ll only splurge if it’s on something super super important (like powder).

Concealer and Bronzer are what got me through college! Anything to hide the bags showing how little sleep you get is essential in my eyes!
