When you are in college, do you really have the budget to buy a $40 foundation, $30 mascara and $35 lipstick? Sure you don’t. It’s amazing you even scrape enough money to pay for food, especially at the end of the month, right? Still, no matter how much money you (don’t) have, you want to look presentable and as beautiful as possible while staying on a healthy budget. Worry not, we’ve come up with a list of makeup products you’ll love and be able to afford without worrying if you’ll make rent after you’ve purchased them.
Narrowed down, the list:
Rare are the days when #iwokeuplikethis actually works to our advantage (especially during an exam season) and not many of us won the genetic lottery. Unfortunately, most of us have to rely on a quality foundation to hide all the hormonal and stress blemishes, redness, dark under-eye circles, etc. So, after browsing through plenty of products trying to find that one foundation that actually works without breaking the bank, I’ve found Rimmel Stay Matte, which blew my mind. This foundation is light and creamy, it’ll stay fixed on the face for hours without getting that cakey structure we hate and it’ll cost you just about $5! I believe it works on any skin type and any colour.
Maybe this time around you should leave that I-just-rolled-out-of-bed look for some other time (even though you may indeed have rolled out of bed 5 minutes before your 8 am class) and put on some concealer to give your face a healthy glow. Choose a concealer that’s a few shades lighter than your actual skin tone. Why? Your eyes will look brighter and you won’t look tired. Our choice falls on NYX Cosmetics HD Photogenic Concealer Wand, $5.
One of the crucial steps in our makeup routine ‒ applying powder properly (and choosing the right one) is what sets all of our hard work in place. We love Elf Flawless Face as it sets the makeup perfectly and provides great coverage! Believe it or not – it’s only $2.00!
Why wouldn’t you have a set of volumized lashes for $7-$8! Every Covergirl mascara we’ve tried has turned out to be absolutely fantastic. Try Clump Crusher, Lash Full Bloom and LashBlast – and you won’t regret it.
Pouty, coloured and nurtured lips for only $6.00? WHERE? Well, look no more ‒ ColourPop (we’ve tried the one in Beeper shade) is marvelous and the price is practically a steal! These lipsticks stay on long (sometimes the entire day), so don’t worry about looking anything but dashing at that after-class party!
There are times in life when you simply need to skip on a meal or two and treat yourself to a little quality. In trying eyeshadows, we’ve come across Skin Matrix Osmosis Water Colour mineral eyeshadow and were completely blown away. The formula is light and hydrating, with a radiant glimmer that doesn’t crease. We’ve only later found out that this eyeshadow contains Green Tea, Vitamins A, C, E and Goji Berry blend which heals and nurtures the eye area. How awesome is that? We somehow feel this one’s perfect for night dates or those crazy frat parties.
Getting a quality bronzer, especially during spring/summer days, is key to solid contouring and a “fake” tanned look. To give your cheekbones and chin a fine contour, buy a bronzer that is a shade darker than your skin tone, and get a beautiful pop. Our choice falls on Wet n’ Wild ColorIcon Bronzer, that you’ll get for $3.99. Is that a steal or what? The bronzer feels smooth on the skin, it’s very light and it comes in a variety of shades.
The right perfume
Is there anything as fabulous as smelling good even after an 8-hour lecture? No, absolutely not. There are no makeup products in the world will mask a bad smell, so make sure you keep your hygiene impeccable and your perfume on point. Currently, our favourite is Paco Rabanne Olympea, but that’s very individual. Find your fragrance and own it!
Well, girls – we hope we were of help! what makeup products could we rock while being on a college budget?, please share the wisdom, we’ll appreciate it!
